FOND MEMORIES OF HIS DAD - MAY BE NIGEL CAN BEAT BRIAN ON LONGEVITY IN FOOTBALL MANAGEMENT?
Brian Clough's son Nigel has spoken of his hopes of staying in football management long enough to at least match his dad. 'The Number Nine' as Brian used to call him when they were Nottingham Forest, is now manager at Mansfield Town and 1,000 games into his career.
"My dad used to tease me that I would never beat him at anything," he laughed during an interview with the
Daily Mail's Ian Ladyman (January 2021). "He said I wouldn't score more goals or be as good a manager. He was right.
"But he was a manager for 27 years and I have done 22. Maybe I can get there. It would take me to 60. It would be nice to do him on longevity, wouldn't it?"
Nigel also talks about his decision to leave Burton Albion to save the jobs of others during the pandemic - and his thoughts on returning to Forest sometime in the future - in the full interview online.
