Marcus Alton has written four books about Brian Clough and is the editor of this website. He interviewed Brian on several occasions and worked closely with the Clough family to make the Nottingham statue of Brian a reality that Barbara Clough described as 'just perfect'.

He has spoken at events at Waterstones and the nationally-renowned Lowdham Book Festival and Newark Book Festival. He has been interviewed on radio and television programmes and in newspapers about his books and research.

Book signings have included events at Nottingham Forest's Megastore and Pitch Diner, WH Smith in Nottingham, Waterstones in Derby and MSR Newsagents in Nottingham's Victoria Centre.

This new tribute "In The Top One - The Life of Brian Clough"  was presented by Marcus Alton for the first time at Newark Book Festival  on Sunday 14th July 2019.

There was a great turn-out at the Tudor Hall in the National Civil War Centre as great memories about Brian Clough were top of the fixture list. Comments from the audience afterwards included: "marvellous memories", "that was quite emotional" and "it's nice to hear stories I've not heard before."

Marcus takes a journey through Cloughie's life, with colourful stories and classic quotes about the most charismatic figure football has ever known.

Based on the four books he has written about Clough, Marcus' stories include the times he met and interviewed Brian, anecdotes from one of Cloughie's close friends, tales from former players Marcus has interviewed - plus special memories from the archives.

It all adds up to an entertaining tribute to the man who once said: "I wouldn't say I was the best manager in the business. But I was in the top one."

Marcus can present 'In The Top One' for your event or club. Contact us through the email page for booking enquiries .

The event at Newark Book Festival was also reported by the Newark Advertiser, whose photographer came along to capture an image of the author at the civil war centre.

"From reading his books and website I can safely say he is like an encyclopedia when it comes to all things Cloughie!" @CloughandTaylor
