GOAL-DEN MEMORIES OF BRIAN CLOUGH
These archive cuttings were collected by Cloughie fan Geoff Readman when Brian was his boyhood hero at Middlesbrough. They accompany the Green Jumper podcast 'Clough Stories - Top Scorer' (Episode 97).

Geoff says: "Brian had it all as a player. He could strike the ball, he could head it, he could climb and he had speed over three or four metres. I tried to copy him, even the way he walked! At school, I would try to copy his signature when the teacher wasn't looking!"

Geoff recalled how disappointed he was when Clough left to join local rivals Sunderland but he still followed his career and went to see him play at Roker Park. It was while playing for Sunderland on Boxing Day 1962 that Clough suffered the injury that effectively ended his playing career.

"Although I never met Brian - I was too fightened to approach him when I was a boy - I have a signed photo of him playing for Middlesbrough, and that takes pride of place at home," adds Geoff.

Thanks to Geoff for sharing some of his brilliant newspaper cuttings and for taking part in the Green Jumper podcast. Marcus met Geoff at the Green Jumper event held at Arnold Library in Nottingham.

The Story....
As you can see, the Green Jumper pod has been on tour since 2024. The first of a series of special events was held on Friday, 8th March 2024 in Nottingham. The events include memories and tributes featuring Cloughie author Marcus Alton who interviewed Brian several times.
During the tour, Marcus is talking about his book 'Brian Clough The Lost Tapes' and recalling great stories. There's also the opportunity to purchase signed copies of his books, which are supporting good causes.
The first event was supporting the St George's Centre in the Netherfield area, with nearly £1,000 raised. Another event at Ramsdale Park Golf Centre supported Maggie's Cancer Centre in Nottingham and raised more than £400. Further events have raised over £1,000 for the Friary homelessness charity and Nottinghamshire Hospice.
Marcus was in conversation with event host Neil Kendrick and the evenings included an entertaining audience Q&A.

Previously, Marcus presented a cheque for £7,500 to the children's cancer ward at Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre on behalf of the Brian Clough Memorial Fund.
